dog tutorial, merge verticies

hi, i'm trying to do the dog tutorial and i'm at the point where we boolean the dogs bits together

and of course non of it works
ok, i exaggerate, it does work for everything that isn't the ear and the nose.

the ear i finally got sowed on (although union didn't work, but difference did user added image ) but the nose wont go on

i can't get any booleans to work because everything just vanishes

and i can't get the other way to work either because the merge verticies doesn't stitch up the border edges like it did with the other bits. i'll merge two verticies then i'll merge two others and the border edge is still there

so i end up with this polygon model which has a border edge around where the nose has been merged too

why is this stupid border edge here? i can't get rid of it user added image

ok never mind, i saw the prior thread related to the mechwarrior and the booleans not working, and i was confuzzled as to how to reverse an objects normals

but now i found it.... staring right at me in the Normals menu.... i'm such a noob... :headbang:
